A driverless truck in the United States has now officially started its first regular long-distance journey. The truck is running between Dallas and Houston.

Aurora, a US company that provides goods delivery services using self-driving technology, announced on Thursday that it has launched commercial services for driverless trucks in Texas under its first customers Uber Freight and Hersh Bach Motor Lines. The companies deliver time- and temperature-sensitive goods.

The driverless truck is equipped with computers and sensors that can see a distance longer than four football fields. During the four-year trial period, more than 10,000 products have been delivered using this technology. The self-driving truck has traveled more than 1,200 miles without a driver as of yesterday.

Both companies had previously started testing driverless trucks to verify the self-driving technology known as 'Aurora Driver'. However, there was a 'safety driver' present. Now, there will be no more safety drivers on Aurora's new commercial service.
