Dhaka University student killed in stabbing at Suhrawardy Udyan

A Dhaka University student was stabbed to death by a miscreant near the Mukta Mancha in Suhrawardy Udyan. His name is Shahriar Alam Samya (25). He was a student of the university's Institute of Education and Research for the 2018-19 academic year.

Shahriar was the literary and publishing secretary of Dhaka University's Sir A.F. Rahman Hall branch of Chhatra Dal. He lived in room number 222 of this hall.

Sir A.F. Rahman Hall's principal and associate professor Mahfuzul Haque told Prothom Alo at around 1:30 am, "Shahriar died of a stab wound. We are now in the medical center."

Shahriar was rescued around midnight on Tuesday and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Dhaka Medical Police Outpost Inspector Md. Faruk said that some classmates brought the student to the hospital's emergency department in a bloody state. After that, the doctor examined him and declared him dead. He had a sharp weapon injury on his right leg. The body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.

According to sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Shahriar was riding a motorcycle on the main road next to the open stage of Suhrawardy Udyan around midnight. At that time, his motorcycle collided with the motorcycle of an unknown person. An argument broke out between them. At one stage, the unknown person stabbed Shahriar and fled.

Regarding the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Khalid Mansur told  that he is at the scene and is trying to find out details about the incident.
